'Where the Wildflowers Awaken'
A contemporary take on one of my absolute favourite views in the Lake District. Painted in a dramatic panoramic format, this piece captures the breathtaking sweep of Buttermere and Crummock Water, overlooked by the striking Grasmoor.
When creating this piece, I wanted the landscape to feel completely alive. I took so much inspiration from the vibrant colours, raw textures, and pure energy of the landscape, which poured directly into the creation of this piece.
This painting is inspired by a memorable family hike in the summer, starting from Buttermere and heading straight up Red Pike. Once we reached the glorious summit, the question was raised:
“Shall we keep going?” to complete the full circuit including High Stile and High Crag. The Ridge Trio! A few of the “Yes’s” may have been a little reluctant, but we pushed on and completed the walk. It was stunning and so special to be in the wild with my family – so free and real.
To truly bring the spirit of that day into the studio, I collected actual scree and foliage along the way to use in the creation of this piece. If you look closely at the heavy impasto texture of the fells and the foreground, you might spot some bits of genuine dried heather, red earth, and twigs embedded directly into the paint.
