By Your Side

‘By Your Side’  is inspired by the woodlands near to my home in Surrey.

The moment you arrive at the edge of the forest and begin to walk beneath the silver birch trees and ancient oaks, there is a calming sensation that fills your chest. Feeling the layers of trodden, decomposed leaves beneath your feet, the fresh smell of bark and the stillness around you feels so incredibly grounding.

Walking these woods has a nurturing feel, because even in the absolute quiet you are never truly alone – the energising, protective and simply beautiful spirit of nature is always right by your side.

Foliage gathered from the surrounding woodlands was used in the making of this piece, and you may even be able to spot pieces of it embedded in the paint. The more you look, the more you see... and the more you see, the more you feel. I hoped to capture my emotions with the vibrancy and textures within this artwork.
