Wild Waters
“Wild Waters” is a vibrant representation of Stickle Tarn sitting at the dramatic base of Pavey Ark in the Lake District.
This colourful, textured piece reflects upon my very first wild swim in a mountain tarn, translating a rush of contrasting human emotions onto the canvas.
Getting into the water that day, I felt a kaleidoscope of feelings all at once: the initial cold uncertainty of wading in, the wave of relief once submerged, and the pure euphoria of floating on my back, staring up at the majestic peaks above. Then came the sudden, thrilling whisper of fear—wondering what lurked beneath the dark, deep waters, questioning how far out I should dare to swim.
While these emotions fought for space, the physical experience of the swim was vastly superior to the fear. Floating there, I wasn't just observing nature; I felt deeply connected to it—I was nature itself. It was a profound moment of peace, relief, and joy.
Painting this piece made me reflect on the importance of trusting our own instincts and our inner guide when navigating the unexplored "wild waters" of life. It stands as a visual reminder to trust your truth, honour your journey, and always flow from a place of deep inner peace.
